About

I am Aurora Lucas, educator by profession, Filipino-American at heart, and I am a 24 year old that aspires to continuously serve and learn more about the people of the world.

I was born and raised in the land of 7,000 islands: The Philippines. I was surrounded by four languages: Filipino, Ilocano, Visaya and English.

In 2002, my family immigrated to the suburbs of Chicago, where we were expected to adapt a new way of life. New people, new faces, new language, new everything. I was placed in a classroom where I barely spoke the language, with the sink or swim idea of language learning. I work hard every day to learn more about the intricacies of language learning and how it deeply affects our identity.

I am an advocate for:

  • social justice
  • sexual harassment
  • women’s rights
  • minority rights
  • peacebuilding
  • equalizing educational opportunities for disenfranchised children, youth, and adults

I strive to continously grow, make meaningful connections, and open up my arms to the beautiful possibilities of the world we live in. I also know that its important to be conscious about the challenges we all face – I thrive in situations where we have to collaborate about solving problems.

I love meeting new people, learning new things, and working hard for people who envision a better world.

My Qualifications:

  • Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
  • BA in English Literature with a Focus on Creative Writing
  • Graduate Certificate in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding
  • SIT TESOL Certificate

I love jumping into the unknown and uncomfortable because I believe that’s where we are able to grow the most.

I have been blogging / writing / creating content for social media for the past four years, and I just wanted to thank every single one of you for being a loyal audience, and for continuously hyping me up to do the work that I’ve always been meant to do!

More content coming soon. Thanks for patiently waiting!

For now, head over to my Vision page!
